Easter holidays are here!

I’ve been using this time to go outside and get some fresh air (fresh air = fresh mind)

I also made blueberry and buttermilk pancakes for my mum!
Thank you for teaching me how to bake your crazy cakes, for taking me to gigs when I was too young to get in and being totally rock n roll.
Mum - you are the bees knees.

Photos from our Edition(S) fair at The Peckham Pelican yesterday!

It was such a fun day and it was great to hang out with some top notch people! A big thank you to everyone who bought my goodies :~) I will be setting up an online shop to sell some more stuff, I will keep you posted. P.s. Thank you to Nous Vous for a great 7 weeks, Ive learnt a lot from these guys! Good drawing, good making, good people, good vibes! I feel good, real good.

Some nice things from the fair

Jesse’s funky little pots - check them out on his blog

Cute little spotty guy (he was originally a ring but I’m stupidly heavy handed and broke his leg off, doofus! :-( )

Fisherman plate

I’ve been playing around in the Ceramics room and I ended up with this guy! I’m pretty pleased with it. I love how the glaze turned out, gives it a wishy washy vibe.

Watching The Life of Mammals and drawing with felt tips, the best way to spend a sunday evening. Here is a quick drawing of a sleeping lion.

When I get stuck on my project I find a release in doing something different, whether it’s cooking, sewing, knitting or just going for a bike ride. This has concluded in a weekend playing around with my sewing machine. I am making a denim picnic blanket that I will be selling (hopefully) at our Editions fair at the Peckham Pelican next Saturday! The blanket is relating back to my seaside theme project, as it is small in size, therefore perfect to pack in your bag and take to the beach! It’s constructed using old denim scraps from a collection of my family’s jeans over the years. Above is a photo of my two panels that need to be straightened up and sewn together. I am then going to add a little bright blue binding to finish it off. :~)

The second photo is some nice scraps of material from my mums material collection. I also plan to make two cushion covers, keeping it quite simple as I am running out of time. I am going to use simple block shapes relating back to my seaside theme.

I bought Metronomy’s new album today and it is amazing, they way it is packaged is so perfect and the artwork by Leslie David is incredible too. If you need a soundtrack for the spring/summer, listen to this. It will make you groove.

Today we had a fun filled day making abstract patterns with Nous Vous! It was really fun to relax and play. We were set various tasks, the first was to draw an image on a piece of square paper and stick it up on the wall. We then picked another persons drawing off the wall and drew our own interpretation of it on a separate piece. We then stuck our drawings up on the wall and took another drawing from someone else. We carried on undertaking different tasks continuing this process, such as blind drawing and using continuous lines.

The benefits of working from someone elses drawings is that you don’t have that emotional connection with it, so you free up and get to mess around a bit (without the worry of ruining it!) I found that using abstract forms built continuity between all of our work. It’s definitely a really nice way of working when you feel a bit bogged down with ideas! We are planning on collaborating on a piece outside the Peckham Pelican for our Editions fair. Come on down! (I’ll post the date/time as soon as it has been confirmed)

This week I’ve made a little screen printed mock up book based on the British seaside. I wanted to keep it quite simple, using only 2 colours and block shapes. I used dark navy blue and a nice bright yellow as they look smashing together. I need to improve on my folding skills, folding is not my forte. We are holding an edition fair at the Peckham Pelican which is going to be super fun. I’m planning on making my stall look like a souvenir shop (like ones you’d find at the seaside). My tutor suggested making personalised sticks of rock and selling little goodie bags with screen printed postcards. I’m really excited!
